TV Tunes Tuesdays (on a Wednesday)

Party foul. This post was due yesterday, but is here today. Let's pretend it's Tuesday.

Moving on.

In our first installment of TV Tunes Tuesday, we will be exploring some great live musical performances done on sitcoms/dramas/etc. Unfortunately, if you don't like sappy TV dramas, you probably haven't seen most of these, aside from the Extras clips.

And with that, this is not a definitive top list, but more a handful of gems. If I missed something you thought should be on here, speak!

Michelle Branch singing "Goodbye To You" on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

There were a lot of bands on Buffy because they hung out a nightclub, which makes it a lot easier to explain than other attempts from TV shows. Say what you will about teeny bopper pop hits, but this one is sick. Branch was more talented than most of the bubblegum she competed with in the early part of the millennium and with that came this song. It is so full of heartbreak and torment that of course it had to be played while Willow and Tara broke up, Giles left for England, and Buffy gave in to her Spike temptations. How about the smoking hot kiss at the end of the scene? Yowza.

The Killers singing a few tunes on The OC
In case you haven't noticed, I just really love this band. I also really love tv shows about ultra rich, ultra beautiful people. When you combine the two, it's like Chrismukkah. This was a great grab by the producers of the OC, because this was when the band was still relatively new and before Mr. Brightside EXPLODED and almost reached the point of overplay. The OC is another show, where musical guests were easily explained due to the fact that a couple characters worked at a club. Combine the great musical performance with a humorous episode featuring blind dates with completely incompatible people and you get this fiesta for your eyes and ears. You're welcome. (Yeah, you have to sit through a commercial to get the goods. Sorry.)

Chris Martin singing "Fix You" on Extras
Chris Martin seems kinda d-bag most of the time, which is why I love this clip. Martin makes fun of himself and Ricky Gervais helps make fun of tv shows featuring musical guests. Everything about it works.

David Bowie singing "Little Fat Man" on Extras
This show is where it's at. Watch this song that David Bowie supposedly makes up on a whim about Gervais's character. David Bowie is great. The show is great. Everything is great. I dare you not to laugh at this clip. Double dog style.

Well that's it, kids. I wish the list were longer, but with the holiday season approaching things get put on the back burner. How about some dishonorable mentions? Like all the times the Beach Boys used to show up on Full House. Travesty. Or the time when everyone on Dawson's Creek were crazy about getting into the No Doubt concert, but they never had mentioned the band in the show's existence, yet we were supposed to believe they all loved them so much? I call foul, especially considering No Doubt was pretty mediocre by that point.

As you can see I only watch quality shows.
