The Libertines were an amazing band from England that was pretty big around the time of The Strokes over here. Unfortunately, one of the lead singers, Pete Doherty, had a bit of trouble with drugs. Or a lot of trouble, like literally, yesterday I chose to use them for today's Live Vid Clip and he was arrested TODAY of suspected drug possession. Damn, either I'm psychic or he has a pretty bad addiction. Yeah, you're right. The second one. He was in court to face another charge and had drugs on him, so once he received his punishment, they escorted him right to the police station. Yikes.
Apparently, his drug abuse led to the demise of the band, but hopefully it's not forever. He went on to create his own band, Babyshambles, and continued to hang out with positive influences. Other frontman, Carl Barat, formed Dirty Pretty Things, but neither saw as much success as they did together. Come on, Pete, clean up. The world needs more Libertines.
Check them out playing one of their last live performances as a band. The song is "Can't Stand Me Now" and is about the crumbling friendship of the two frontmen. It's a great performance, if not a little bittersweet as well.
Dig the song?
